On May 12th, 2023, Hanoi, Green Climate Innovation Company Limited (GreenCIC) was invited to participate in the training for senior officials and employees of Hoa Phat Group on the carbon market, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, with the attendance of leaders of the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; and Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The program aims to raise competency and awareness of Hoa Phat Group’s employees about updated policies on climate change, trends and measures to reduce GHG emissions in both Vietnam and the world steel industry. As the leading steel producer in Vietnam and exporter to the European market, the training session is also an opportunity for Hoa Phat to update the latest information and the upcoming requirements of CBAM report.

At the training session, Ms. Nguyen Hong Loan - Advisory Manager of GreenCIC presented a brief overview of carbon pricing and carbon markets in the world and in Vietnam. Besides, as a consultant of the Department of Climate Change on the European CBAM Impact Assessment in Vietnam, Ms. Loan also explained about the potential impacts and solutions to limit those CBAM impact on Hoa Phat Group's production activities.
Moreover, Mr. Nguyen Viet Can - Technical Officer of GreenCIC also shared about the concept, principles and methods of implementing GHG inventory in the steel sector with an example of the results of a GHG accounting and reporting systems for Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Factory.
During the training session, the participants enthusiastically raised questions and made positive comments about the usefulness of the training program. In addition to that, many opinions on difficulties encountered by Hoa Phat's member companies in the process of inventorying and reducing GHG emissions were also mentioned. These comments will contribute to the completion of similar training programs for other sectors and enterprises in the future.
